Thank You Arcis Seismic Solutions

Thanks to Arcis Seismic Solutions who joined the children and staff at the McKenzie Towne School to present a cheque for $20,000.  Brad Torry, President and CEO believes that every child deserves the best opportunity to succeed in life, and the efforts of Providence’s Early Intervention programs are paramount to providing this to the children.  Arcis has been supporting Providence for many years through donations, special events, and volunteering.

Top 5 Tips to Help Your Child Speak More Clearly

  1. Don’t always have the child correct the sound they mispronounced.  Instead, repeat the word making the sound they mispronounced louder and longer than the others in the word.
  2. Read books with the target sound in them (e.g. Good night moon for  the “g” sound).
  3. Read books and change the names of the characters to include sounds they frequently mispronounce.
  4. Create special word lists of 5 mispronounced words and have the child only correct those words.
  5. Practice the target sound for short periods of time (i.e. 5 min) throughout the day (e.g. say the sound as you are cleaning up).

Our new McKenzie Towne school is open!

The giggles and squeals of children filled the air in the city’s southeast with the opening of our newest school in McKenzie Towne (corner of McKenzie Towne Link SE and Promenade Way SE). It is our first bricks-and-mortar building in our 68 years built from the ground up solely for the purpose of working with preschool children with disabilities.

Providence thanks all the donors for their generous support of the Impossible Capital Campaign for McKenzie Towne. If you wish to donate to the new school click donate now or contact Diane DeHekker at 403-255-5577. Thank you!

Therapists Present Toilet Training and Stages of Communication Seminars for Parents

A very successful presentation on Toilet Training took place on Friday Oct 21. Thirty families attended the main school presentation and 20 families attended at our Beddington school. Parents expressed that they received a great deal of  information and that they will now look at toilet training in a much different way. We would like to thank our occupational therapists that put on the presentation Kaylea, Lilian, Lisa, Nicole, and  Prerna for all their hard work.

Also on Friday A Stages of Communication in-service was offered at the Beddington school. The parents indicated that the information was very informative and that they learnt a lot of new information about their child’s communication skills. Thanks go out to our Beddington Speech Language Pathologists Suzanne and Asta for this very important and informative session.

Please visit our Parent’s Page for information on upcoming sessions.
