Deaf, Hard of Hearing and Cochlear Implant Program
This program is research based and focuses on the development of language through speech auditory training. The program is based on a philosophy of Total Communication. Total Communication (TC) is a term that refers to the right of a child to use all forms of communication to develop language competence.
This program is offered to children between the ages of 2 ½ and 6 years of age. Providence offers both integrated and small group special education programs from September to June. Children attend Monday to Friday for 2 ¾ hours per day.
The classrooms have been designed to provide an acoustically appropriate environment to foster language development.
The team at Providence consists of:
- Parent
- Certified Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
- Special Education Teacher
- Speech Language Pathologist
- Occupational Therapist
- Psychologist
- Educational and Therapeutic Assistant
We work in collaboration with Calgary Board of Education, Calgary Catholic School Board, and Deaf Educators of Alberta to facilitate students’ transition from Providence to community schools.
