Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know my child will qualify to attend your program?

Any child with a developmental delay, disability or a medical condition, and would benefit from an educational program that provides intensive therapy may be eligible for Program Unit Funding (PUF). Alberta Education determines eligibility.

How do I apply for funding for my child?

Once you have completed the registration package, Debra Busic will apply to Alberta Education for your child’s Program Unit Funding (PUF) approval.

How many children are in a class?

Providence offers 2 types of classroom settings.

  • Special Education classes are comprised of small groups of 10 children and 3 staff (all locations).
  • Integrated classes have up to 16 children and 3 staff (available at Windsor Park and McKenzie Towne locations).

Who are the staff members working with my child?

There are 3 staff members in each classroom: a Certified Teacher, Therapeutic/Education Assistant and a Therapist. The Speech & Language Pathologist and Occupational therapist alternate their time ensuring that there is always therapy provided in each class.  We also have a Physiotherapist, Behavioral Specialist and a Child Psychologist that will work with your child on an as-needed basis.  The staff work together in a team environment to meet all of your child’s needs.

How does the therapy occur?

Your child will have an Individual Program Plan (IPP), this is a set of educational and therapy goals specific to your child’s individual needs.

Our therapists work directly in the classroom providing individual and small group treatment focusing on the IPP goals. Working in the classroom allows the therapist to follow the child’s lead as well as work with them in a more natural setting where they can then continue practicing these skills.

What programs do you offer?

Is there bus service to and from school?

Yes there is bus service but it is not provided by Providence. Providence collects bussing information for the bus companies which will contact parents and try to arrange a bussing schedule for your child. It is not a guarantee that your child will receive bussing.

Children who are funded through Alberta Education and that register before the end of September are eligible for a transportation grant that will cover the bussing fee.

Children who are funded through Alberta Education and register after September may contact Linda McDowell at (403) 255-5577  for information regarding fees and availabilty.
